HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- Air Force Materiel Command’s senior enlisted member met with Airmen here during an enlisted call at the base theater Dec.1.

During the one-hour session, Command Chief Master Sgt. Jason France shared his thoughts on a number of topics that affect the command’s enlisted personnel.

France discussed how award nomination forms, such as 1206s, should focus mainly on performance.

“It is still important for our Airmen to be involved in our community, to seek opportunities whether that is through education or other things they choose to do,” France said. “It is important to be a positive example in the community, but we need to do it the right way and not just for a bullet on an EPR [enlisted performance report].”

The chief also spoke about professional military education, specifically, the intermediate distance learning course, known as “Course 15.”

The course will soon go from two modules to three, he said. In addition, notification of enrollment in distance learning courses will go to commanders, command chiefs and supervisors.

“That’s going to allow the appropriate level of attention on helping Airmen to make sure they are on the right track to be successful in their distance learning,” France said.

Other topics covered during the enlisted call included changes to Air Force Instruction 36-2618: The Enlisted Force Structure, Air Force chief of staff focus areas, reducing additional duties and the Department of Defense transgender policy change.

In his role as command chief, France serves as the principal advisor to Gen. Ellen M. Pawlikowski, AFMC commander, and other AFMC senior leaders, on all matters affecting the readiness, training, professional development and effective utilization of enlisted personnel.

France also coined the following six Airmen during the enlisted call: Airman Stephen Gary, Airman 1st Class Steve Peplinski, Staff Sgts. Richard Grathen and Sarah McDermott and Tech. Sgts. Michelle Armour and Jessica Subia.

Before ending the call, the chief told the approximately 250 Airmen in attendance how impressed he was by them.

”I have had a blast during my first visit here,” he said. “What an amazing team you have here at Hanscom Air Force Base.”
