HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- The Hanscom community is invited to attend an Air Force Ball celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Air Force at the Boston Marriot in Burlington, Massachusetts, Sept. 15.

Retired Gen. Donald Hoffman, former commander of Air Force Materiel Command, is the scheduled guest speaker.

The theme for this year's event is "Hanscom -- Creating the Air Force heritage of tomorrow."

"At this year’s military ball we will celebrate 70 years of the Air Force breaking barriers," said Col. Roman L. Hund, installation commander. "Events like these are opportunities to enhance esprit de corps and camaraderie among military and civilian personnel and connect today’s service members with our 70 years of heritage."

This year's event will begin with cocktails at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. Music by members of the U.S. Air Force Heritage of America Band will follow dinner.

Members of all branches of the armed forces, as well as Defense Department civilians and contractors, are welcome to attend the ball that will celebrate the Air Force becoming its own separate branch of service Sept. 18, 1947.

“The Air Force Ball is a great opportunity for today’s generation of Airmen to learn more about our Air Force heritage and to hear directly from those who have helped shape our present,” said Bobby Jacques, who is helping to plan this year’s ball.

Military attendees must wear mess dress or the semi-formal uniform. Civilian guests may wear black tie or business- suit attire.

The cost for the event is as follows:

$20 for E-1 to E4, GS-1 to GS-4 and NAF1 to NAF2
$30 for E-5, GS-5 to GS-7 and WS/WL 1-7
$45 for E-6, GS-8 to GS-9, NK01, WS/WL-8-13 and NAF3
