HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- Base officials announced an Air Force Ball will take place Oct. 4 at the Minuteman Commons here to celebrate the 72nd anniversary of the Air Force.

The theme for this year's event is "Hanscom through the Years."

"This year’s Air Force Ball will celebrate the rich history of Hanscom Air Force Base and the men and women whose shoulders we stand on," said Col. Chad Ellsworth, installation commander.

The guest speaker will be Lt. Gen. Warren Berry, deputy chief of staff for Logistics, Engineering and Force Protection at Headquarters Air Force. The general previously served as the deputy commander of Air Force Materiel Command from August 2015 to August 2018.

“The event will provide attendees an opportunity to learn more about Hanscom’s heritage and hear directly from a senior Air Force leader who helped shape our present,” said Courtney Oliver, organizer of this year’s event.

The ball will begin with cocktails at 5:30 p.m., followed by the official program at 6:30 p.m.

Members of all branches of the armed forces, as well as Defense Department civilians and contractors, are welcome to attend this year’s event that will also celebrate the Air Force becoming its own separate branch of service Sept. 18, 1947.

Military attendees must wear mess dress or semi-formal uniform. Civilian guests may wear black tie or business- suit and formal attire.

The cost for the event is as follows:

$25 for E-1 to E6, GS-7 and below
$35 for E-7, GS-8 and above

A buffet-style meal will offer spring mix salad, roasted chicken breast, penne pasta with marinara sauce, London broil, mashed potatoes, chef choice vegetable, and a dessert table with cake, along with coffee and tea.

Each unit has an Air Force Ball representative selling tickets. Tickets will be sold to personnel on a first-come, first-served basis, and sales will close once the event sells out.
