HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass., -- An Air Force Life Cycle Management Center engineer here was honored last month at an AFCEA International Award Ceremony.

Sarah Loerzel, lead engineer for the Wide Area Surveillance Program’s Site Activation Team within the Digital Directorate, received AFCEA’s Emerging Leadership Award in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the Lexington-Concord Chapter. She was previously honored with the Distinguished Young AFCEAN Award in 2017.

Due to COVID-19, the presentation was made virtually via a world-wide broadcast in conjunction with the AFCEA West Symposium normally held in San Diego, California.

Loerzel was cited for her service on the Young AFCEAN Executive Committee and as Young AFCEAN Membership Officer since 2016. AFCEA noted that she “enthusiastically took the initiative in planning and volunteering countless hours” at numerous events, including the chapter’s New Horizons Symposium, its “Run for STEM 5K,” and a technical tour at MassRobotics. She also spearheaded the chapter’s Young AFCEAN membership outreach and led many other efforts.

Professionally, Loerzel has completed her APDP Level 3 Engineering Certification this year, the highest level achievable for civil service engineers.

“Sarah Loerzel’s contributions to our Lexington-Concord Chapter have been no less than extraordinary,” said Kevan Kivlan, Lexington-Concord Chapter president.
