HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – The Warhawk First Sergeant Council will host the third annual Memorial Day Run at the outdoor track here May 26 from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Runners will carry the American flag around the track from sunrise to sunset to recognize and honor the sacrifices of fallen service members.

“This event is a way to remind us all that Memorial Day is so much more than a long holiday weekend,” said Master Sgt. Roy Galindo, Air Force Life Cycle Management Center Detachment 12 first sergeant.  “It’s a way to reinforce our Air Force core values and remember the sacrifices our brothers- and sisters-in-arms have made.”

The event is open to all those in the Hanscom community with base access.

Participants can register to carry the flag in 30-minute intervals either as an individual or a team by visiting https://m.signupgenius.com/#!/showSignUp/9040b4eafad2aaaf49-3rdannual.

The Warhawk First Sergeant Council will also have t-shirts available for sale and will be accepting donations to benefit Operation Warm Heart, a non-profit organization created by Air Force first sergeants to provide relief for Airmen and their families throughout the year.

“We’re always looking for ways to support our Hanscom family, and Operation Warm Heart is a great way to be there for them when times get tough,” said Galindo.
