Community Newspapers Company, the current publisher of the Hansconian, will assume ownership and associated production responsibilities of the newspaper on Oct. 1.

The 66th Air Base Wing Public Affairs Office will produce its final issue of the Hansconian Sept. 28. After this date, PA Office personnel will focus their efforts on providing news via the Hanscom Public Web site, www.hanscom.af.mil.

The transition from print-based news to electronic news is happening at bases across the Air Force as a means of streamlining processes to overcome reductions in manpower and budget resources.

The independently produced Hansconian will continue to provide the Hanscom community with base-related information. The paper may also contain information from other CNC publications, which include the weekly local town papers.

"While we will no longer be responsible for the content or design of the Hansconian after Oct. 1, our office looks forward to working with CNC and supplying them with up-to-date content about the base community and events," said 1st Lt. Lisa Spilinek, 66 ABW PA internal information chief.

"Our goal is to continue to provide timely and relevant information on broad Air Force and Hanscom-specific topics, both via the Web and by submitting stories to CNC for their use in this new version of the Hansconian. To accomplish this task, we need the base community to stay engaged with our office and to let us know when and where news is happening," she said.

Base personnel interested in having a story or upcoming event published on the Web or possibly in the Hansconian, should call the 66 ABW PA Office at (781) 377-5027 or send an e-mail to Hanscom.Hansconian@hanscom.af.mil

"We look forward to the streamlining benefits this change will provide, but realize that some adjustments may need to be made as this new way of supplying content for the paper goes into effect. We look forward to working closely with our readers and content providers, to ensure that both our internal and external audiences are provided current information that accurately tells the Air Force story," Lieutenant Spilinek said.

Many services that are currently offered by the Hansconian will carry over when CNC produces its own version of the paper. The paper will continue to be delivered to base facilities and throughout base housing. To inquire about delivery issues, readers should call CNC's circulation line at (800) 722-1914.

Another service that will remain in place after the transition is the availability of free classified advertising to base-affiliated personnel; however, the process for placing an ad will change. To place a free classified advertisement in the Oct. 5 or later issues of the Hansconian, base-affiliated personnel should call CNC advertising line at (800) 624-7355.
