Members of the Hanscom workforce can attend a presentation by retired U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Shilo Harris, a wounded warrior and motivational speaker, at the Minuteman Commons April 14. Four offerings are scheduled at 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 12:45 p.m. and 2:15 p.m.

Harris was injured by an improvised explosive device while serving in Iraq. Three Soldiers were killed during the attack. Harris lost both ears, the tip of his nose and three fingers. He also suffered third degree burns on 35 percent of his body and sustained multiple bone fractures.

"His story is focused on his ability to persevere and thrive in spite of the trauma and tragedy he has endured," said Linda Ambard, Hanscom's community support coordinator and organizer for this event.

While the presentation is voluntary, it may count as the one hour teamwork component of Wingman Day. Personnel who do not attend one of these sessions may need to participate in an alternate activity for that portion of Wingman Day.

Ambard said that those interested in attending this event must register in advance at https://einvitations.afit.edu/inv/anim.cfm?i=282821&k=006940017956.
