Calling all volunteers. Hanscom's Annual Volunteer Salute will be held May 22 at the Hanscom Conference Center from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The salute will feature a multimedia tribute to volunteerism, remarks from Col. Lester A. Weilacher, 66th Air Base Group commander, and presentation of the Chief of Staff Volunteer Excellence Award.

The Volunteer Salute and reception lunch are free to all base volunteers and their supporters, whether they volunteered one hour or 1,000 hours on base or off base, in the past year.

The theme for this year is "Celebrate Service."

Volunteers represent numerous organizations such as the American Red Cross, Federal Emergency Management Agency, Habitat for Humanity, Humane Society and the Boy and Girl Scouts of America. They are our neighbors, friends, family and co-workers. They help with cleanup and rebuilding, while offering support and compassion during challenging times. They distribute food and funds to unemployed and teach valuable and practical life skills to children.

This year there are six VEA nominees: Nancy Budenas, 66th Force Support Squadron; Jason Courneen, 66th Air Base Group Civil Engineering; Joyce Davison, 66th Force Support Squadron, Kevin Geaney, 66th Force Support Squadron; Alan Lehman, 66th Air Base Group Judge Advocate; and Robin Wirthlin, Battle Management Directorate.

Many of those selfless individuals are here at Hanscom, improving the quality of life on base, in their individual communities and around the world. The Volunteer Salute is dedicated to them.
