551ST ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS WING
Mission:
The 551st Electronic Systems Wing, a unit of the Air Force Electronic Systems Center at Hanscom AFB, MA, delivers superior capabilities from assigned programs: AWACS, Joint STARS, E-10A/MP-RTIP, Mission Planning, and Weather providing strategic support to ongoing operations, identifying capability information integration opportunities and equipping the war fighter with the technical edge needed to meet combatant mission requirements.
The wing's mission is execute a $12 billion in approved program funds to develop, provide, sustain and evolve integrated current and future surveillance, battle planning, battle management, and battle execution capabilities to meet United States and Allied and Coalition requirements by teaming with the war fighter, industry, and enterprise partners.
Units:
The mission is accomplished from the resources of four Electronic Systems Groups (ELSG) and one direct reporting division.

551 ELSG
The Airborne Warning Command and Control System and Airborne Early Warning and Control are the premier airborne warning systems, which provide rapid, world-wide response capability for the US and its allies when situations require immediate and continuous on-scene command and control and battle management. The mission system includes surveillance radar, navigation, communications, data processing, identification and display equipment/capabilities.
The 551 ELSG develops, provides, and sustains airborne C2 capabilities--surveillance, weapons control and battle management--to meet the United States and its allies requirements.
751 ELSG
The E-8C is a Command Control and Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance platform that provides dedicated support to air, ground and maritime theatre commanders. By providing Ground Moving Target Indicator battlefield surveillance and Synthetic Aperture Radar imagery, Joint STARS supports attack operations and targeting that contribute to the delay, disruption and destruction of enemy forces while also conducting ground and maritime surveillance to develop an understanding of the enemy situation across the spectrum of military operations, including peacekeeping and special missions.
The 751st ELSG teams with the warfighter, industry and C2ISR community to acquire, sustain, and evolve current and future surveillance and battle management capabilities.
851 ELSG
The E-10A Wide Area Surveillance Technology Development Program will develop, acquire, test and demonstrate an advanced integrated ground and air surveillance and targeting capability to provide the warfighter a battle management force multiplier that detects, tracks and reports air and surface targets to air, land and naval forces assuring US and coalition forces preserve peace, control crises, and win wars.
The mission of the E-10A WAS Tech Development Program is to integrate a Multi-Platform Radar Technology Insertion Program Two Dimensional-Active Electronically Scanned Array radar subsystem and a BMC2 exploitation suite onto a Boeing 767-400ER to provide ground surveillance and support an air-to-air command mission.
The Multi-Platform Radar Technology Insertion Program program is developing modular, scalable, surveillance and reconnaissance radar(s) to be installed on RQ-4B Global Hawk and the E-10A Aircraft.
The E-10A with MP-RTIP will deliver a surface surveillance capability Ground Moving Target Indicator and SAR images, a focused Air Moving Target Indicator capability to support the Cruise Missile Defense mission integrated on a Boeing 767-400ER platform. The mission of the Global Hawk with MP-RTIP is to give the Joint Force Commander additional advantages and capabilities, while providing a force multiplier, and complementing manned/space reconnaissance systems.
951 ELSG
The Mission Planning program has three systems. The legacy systems fielded today are the UNIX based Mission Planning System and the PC based Portable Flight Planning System. The future PC-based planner, Joint Mission Planning System with major integration expectations, will serve the warfighter into the next decade.
The 951 ELSG mission is to be the user's choice for integrated mission planning capability on any device -- anytime, anywhere.
551 ELSW/WE
The Air Force Weather Weapon System consists of several small programs making up a global system designed and developed to provide all facets of weather collection, forecasting and dissemination to the user.
The Weather Division acquires and fields Terrestrial Weather and strategic systems capability, rapidly delivering decision-quality environmental information to Air Force and Army commanders to support global military operations in peace and war.
