66TH AIR BASE WING PUBLIC AFFAIRS
Mission Statement:
The 66th Air Base Wing Public Affairs Office provides world-class internal information, media relations, community relations and security and policy review. The goal of the 66 ABW PA office is to provide trusted counsel to base and center leadership, keep the work force and base residents fully informed with complete and accurate information while publicizing to the American public and elected officials the "Serve the Center, Ready the Force" mission, key Air Force messages and the accomplishments of our people.
Media Queries
All media contacts should be immediately referred to the 66th Air Base Wing Public Affairs office. It is the responsibility of the Public Affairs office to coordinate all media interviews, media queries and media access to the base.
Please direct all media calls to (781) 377-4110 during normal duty hours. If you have an urgent media query after normal duty hours, contact the command post at (781) 377-5144 and ask to have the on-call Public Affairs representative return your call.
Community Relations
The objective of community relations is to increase public awareness and understanding of the Air Force and Hanscom's mission. We support surrounding communities in all aspects, ranging from tour requests, volunteer support, to providing speaker's for outside events. Our goal is to foster positive relations with the surrounding communities. Participation in community events by Air Force people is desirable and highly encouraged. The 66 ABW PA office has a Speakers Bureau that is used to fill various speaker requests from schools, civic organizations, etc. To request a speaker for your next event please fax the date, time and a point of contact for your event to (781) 377-5077 or email: hanscom.hansconian@hanscom.af.mil.
Internal Information
The 66th Air Base Wing Public Affairs Internal Information section supports the wing commander and base leadership by maintaining effective avenues of communication with the base community, consisting of active-duty and retired airmen, their family members, and government and contracted employees.
The base newspaper the "The Hansconian" is produced weekly by a commercial publisher, Community Newspaper Company. For information on placing a display ad in the paper contact the publisher directly at 978-371-5702 or to place a classified ad call 800-894-5141.
Free classified ads are available for active-duty and retired military personnel and their families working, living or relocating to Hanscom Air Force Base, with the exception of ads for commercial gain. The deadline for classified ads submission is Wednesday at 5 p.m. for the Friday issue of the same week.
For problems with Hansconian delivery to base housing call 800-722-1914 and call 781-377-4467 for problems with delivery to base buildings.
Submitting stories
We are always looking for news and information directly related to Hanscom Air Force Base and the men and women assigned here. Stories and story ideas can be submitted to the 66 ABW/PA staff. We reserve the right to use, reject and/or edit any stories that are submitted. Although we cannot promise your story will be used, we do appreciate any submissions and welcome new ideas. Public Affairs also produces biographies on key base personnel and fact sheets covering Hanscom AFB, its history, units and mission.
The section is also responsible for maintaining the Hanscom public Web site, programming and operating the Commanders Access Channel," on the base cable TV system.
Internal Information Objectives:
- Link airmen and their leaders through a free flow of news and information.
- Help airmen understand their roles in the Air Force mission.
- Explain how policies, programs and operations affect airmen.
- Promote good citizenship and build pride in members of the civilian community at home and in foreign countries.
- Recognize individual and team achievements.
- Provide avenues for feedback.
Security and Policy Review:
The goal of the Security and Policy Review Program is to clear the maximum amount of information with a minimum of delay. We are committed to customer satisfaction.
