6/24/2010 - HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- The 101 Critical Days of Summer campaign officially kicked off on Memorial Day, but now that school is out and temperatures are on the rise, the Electronic Systems Center Safety Office reminds Team Hanscom that safety is a crucial element of having fun.

In the time between Memorial Day and Labor Day, lengthened daylight hours, good weather and participation in a wide variety of outdoor activities increase the risk of injuries and fatal mishaps -- many of which are avoidable when proper safety precautions are taken. To encourage the Hanscom community to embrace risk management as a culture, the safety office is supporting a Safety Showcase, which will be held in conjunction with Summer Bash.

The safety office hopes Team Hanscom members will take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about keeping themselves and their families safe, said Galen Williams, ESC Safety Office director.

"We give routine summer safety briefings every year, but this year rather than just focusing on industrial safety, seatbelt, cell phone and texting policies, we also wanted to offer summer safety information on areas that are important to members of the Hanscom community as consumers," he said. "We are addressing safe products and safe practices to make it easy for individuals to assess self risk."

The showcase will feature exhibitors from a wide variety of industries who will demonstrate and display the latest safety products and recreational equipment. Exhibits will include athletic equipment, ergonomic home and office items, nutrition aids, toys and playground equipment and more.

"The showcase will include something for everyone," Mr. Williams said. "We hope everyone will take a moment to view the technology and products out there that will enhance individual and family safety."
