10/21/2010 - HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- Editor's Note: The following article is the last of three in a series highlighting the Shiely, Wright and O'Neill awards, which will be announced on Nov. 10. This week's article focuses on the O'Neill Award.

The Lt. Gen. John W. O'Neill Award is given annually to two Electronic Systems Center military officers who have made outstanding contributions to the ESC mission.

The award is given in honor of Lt. Gen. John W. O'Neill, the Electronic Systems Division commander from July 1964 to July 1967, and is presented in two categories: major and below, and lieutenant colonel and above.

The awards are given to officers who have displayed outstanding qualities within their organization including integrity, leadership and performing above and beyond the task required.

The current trophy is on display in the lobby of the ESC headquarters in Building 1606.

The finalists will be recognized at the awards banquet on Nov. 10 at The Minuteman Club starting at 6 p.m. The guest speaker for the event is retired Lt. Gen. Henry A. "Trey" Obering III. The event also includes dinner and entertainment.

Tickets are $23 for club members and $25 for non-club members. Tickets will be available through unit representatives. Registration can also be accomplished by accessing the link listed under the ESC CenterNet homepage "What's New" section.
