11/4/2010 - HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- The Paul Revere Chapter of the Air Force Association recently presented Hanscom's Air Force Sergeants Association, Chapter 161, with a $2,000 check to help support AFSA's many community service functions and enlisted support programs.

The chapter voted to use the money to support Hanscom's junior enlisted Airman by offering ten free memberships. Three Airmen have been presented with memberships, but seven more are still up for grabs.

The next AFSA meeting will be Nov. 17 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Minuteman Club's Patriot Lounge. During this meeting attendees may find out how to obtain one of the seven free memberships, as well as learn about the benefits of being a member.

"There are a multitude of reasons why people should think about joining AFSA," said Staff Sgt. Maurice Morrell, chapter president. "The organization represents the total Air Force enlisted corps and their families on legislative matters and allows enlisted members to make professional contacts and network. AFSA members can receive academic scholarships and enjoy a wide-range of valuable discounts on vacation packages, auto rentals, computer equipment, mobile phone services, floral purchases, magazine subscriptions and more."

In addition, the local AFSA chapter will partner with AFA for a community service project. The Veterans Day Fun Run takes place on Nov. 11 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Bedford. AFSA will cook and feed more than 150 veterans during this event.

"Volunteering in the community is not only good for an individual, but it's good for the Air Force," said Airman 1st Class Kari Meckling, AFSA communications officer. "What better way to honor veterans than to serve them on Veterans Day?"

The group is still looking for volunteers. Anyone interested may contact Master Sgt. David Hassan at 781-377-4791.
