1/4/2011 - HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- 2010 was a year of change at Hanscom. Personnel experienced change in structure from wings, groups and squadrons to Program Executive Officers and new directorates. A conversion from the National Security Personnel System back to the GS system occurred, and many members of the technical support work force transitioned from contractor to civilian.
Many exciting events and activities took place in the community, as well. More than 2,000 Girl Scouts, along with their parents and leaders visited the base and donated more than 30,000 boxes of cookies to the troops. Approximately 200 people from the Hanscom community came together to assemble more than 10,000 troop care packages during the the USO and Lockheed Martin sponsored Troop Care Drive.
Celebrities and sports stars came to the base to meet and greet Airmen, including Baseball Hall of Famer Tommy Lasorda, Red Sox Hall of Famer Rico Petrocelli, best-selling author Patricia Cornwell and several others.
The Hanscom community celebrated Year of the Air Force Family and Month of the Military Child through many family activities. The base welcomed home heroes and Airmen stood proud during flag details at Fenway Park.
