1/6/2011 - HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- Several events will take place at Hanscom to honor and remember Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. just prior to the federal holiday on Jan. 17. A remembrance breakfast will take place at the Minuteman Club, the bowling alley and club will host several special lunches featuring southern cuisine specials and the club will also feature movies.
The Dr. Martin Luther King Day of Remembrance breakfast will be held in the club's Lincoln Ballroom on Jan. 14 at 8:30 a.m. The cost is $10 per person. During the breakfast, the national theme of: "Remember! Celebrate! Act! A Day On, Not A Day Off!" will be highlighted.
"Many times people just see Martin Luther King Day as another day off from work," said Senior Airman Reanatta Gammons, the observance organizer. "But we hope that during this breakfast people will take time to remember Dr. King and his many sacrifices toward equality."
In addition, on Jan. 7, 11 and 14 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. the bowling alley and club will have lunch specials, featuring southern cuisine. During lunch at the club, movies about or featuring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will be shown.
For further information or to register for the breakfast, contact Senior Airman Victoria Glynn at victoria.glynn@hanscom.af.mil or Airman Gammons at raenatta.gammons@hanscom.af.mil.
