3/17/2011 - HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- Attention teens of Hanscom: free food and drinks, video games and a chance to play some hoops at the Youth Center on Friday night. All skill levels are welcome.

Throughout the month of March, the 66th Security Forces Squadron is inviting all Hanscom teens from the ages of 13 to 18 to take part in the annual Operation Night Hoops. The operation is an opportunity for teens have some fun playing basketball, while getting to know the law enforcement community.

Officials say it provides a positive venue where members from local law enforcement agencies are able to stress "anti-drug" and "positive alternatives" messages to the teens. It also gives law enforcement a chance to show they are ordinary people and are approachable on or off duty.

For those who may not want to play basketball, a chance to take part in foosball, air hockey, video games or chess will be available.

Operation Night Hoops kicked off March 4 and will continue every Friday night from 8 p.m. to 12 midnight at the Youth Center. The last night hoops event will conclude on March 25.

Contact the 66th Security Forces Squadron Police Services at 781-377-3470 or the Youth Center at 781-377-3739 for further information.
