4/7/2011 - HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- The art of couponing has been featured in many articles and on a lot of television segments lately. In a tough economy, saving money is often on the minds of consumers.

One couponing expert lives in the Hanscom community and she is willing to share her secrets. Christy Ramos saved $271 in just two weeks at the commissary during a Defense Commissary Agency and Overseas Service Corporation (DeCA/OSC) sponsored coupon saver contest in February. But, $271 was nothing because Ms. Ramos says she gets things for free all the time.

Anyone who wants to learn an easy and fun way to save money on groceries and household goods and how to reduce spending by at least 50 percent on these items is encouraged to attend the "Become a Successful Couponer Class."

In 90 minutes, attendees will learn how to buy the products they want or need, but for a fraction of the cost and even sometimes get items for free. The class will help teach people how to change the way they shop. Attendees will learn about specific tools and how to shop at department stores, drug stores, local grocery stores, as well as the commissary to get the best deal.

The class will be held on Thursday, April 14, at the Airman and Family Readiness Center, in Building 1218, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. For those who want to start saving money for a vacation, emergency savings or other financial goals, this class is highly recommended. Call 781-377-4222 or email 66.fss.fsfr.cmb@hanscom.af.mil to register.
