6/23/2011 - HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- Heroes Homecoming and Summer Bash will take place June 24, beginning at 2:30 p.m. at Memorial Park, near the base clinic.

The celebration will begin with a pep rally-style event to welcome home approximately 30 men and women who have returned from deployment in the past six months. Personnel being honored during Heroes Homecoming range in rank from airman 1st class to colonel and have served all over the globe in a variety of roles.

Former New England Patriots players, Bill Lenkaitis, who played 10 seasons with the team while practicing dentistry, and Randy Vataha, a wide receiver who spent six seasons with the team, will be in attendance to welcome the heroes home.

Lt. Gen. Ted Bowlds, Electronic Systems Center commander, has declared Memorial Park as an alternate duty location for Hanscom personnel from 2:30 to 5 p.m.

Immediately following Heroes Homecoming, Summer Bash will begin. Starting at 3:45 p.m. festivities will include: Hanscom Kids Dance Crew and Recycled Trash Fashion Show, live entertainment from X-Band and Afterburner and more. Activities will end at 6:30 p.m.

Due to weather, the fireworks show has been postponed to a later date.

Anyone who has base access is invited to take part in the free festivities.
