2/1/2012 - HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- The African American Heritage Month (AAHM) committee is proud to present this year's African American history month.

The purpose of this committee is to carry out activities that recognize the contributions African Americans have made to society.

Originally established as Negro History Week in 1926 by Dr. Carter G. Woodson, a noted African American author and scholar, this event evolved into the establishment of February as "Black History (or African American History) Month" in 1976.

The 2012 national theme is "Black Women in American Culture and History."

The African American Heritage Month committee will host events throughout February to bring awareness of African American history around Hanscom Air Force Base.

Contact 2nd Lt. Gerve' Tillman at 781-225-0719 or Capt. Roniece Van Dyke at 781-225-0413 for any questions about the AAHM activities.
