12/19/2013 - HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass.  -- The Information Learning Center, or ILC, is opening a new location at the Resiliency Center Dec. 30, announced 66th Force Support Squadron officials.

After the library facility was repurposed in July 2012, FSS developed the ILC concept to provide a functional quiet space that met the demand for technological access in the Hanscom community.

The ILC provides for a variety of needs of our servicemembers, Defense Department civilians, their families and contractors, said Vic Hayes, 66th FSS director.

With this addition, the ILC will now have three locations: the Upper Campus at the Minuteman Commons, the new Lower Campus in the Resiliency Center, co-located with Hanscom Lanes and the Fitness & Sports Center, as well as a children's library at the Youth Center.

The Upper Campus at the Minuteman Commons opened in April.

"We have study and training materials as well as books from the Chief of Staff reading list available for check-out," said Meaghan Meyers, 66 FSS Sustainment Services Flight chief.

Meyers said other hot items included at the Minuteman Commons are the Rosetta Stone's language learning programs, College Level Examination Program, Dante's Single Subject Test and Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, or ASVAB, study aids.

The Lower Campus at the Resiliency Center opens Dec. 30 and will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.
This ILC lower campus will offer three different areas available at no cost with complimentary Wi-Fi access.

"In the Relaxation area, you can enjoy our warm and inviting massage chairs," said Natalie Hernandez, ILC lead technician. "Folks can bring a laptop, phone or tablet to sit back and relax here."

Another option is available for those looking for a cup of coffee to fuel study sessions.

"Settle in to our internet café where you can use the computers available or check-out a laptop and grab a cup of Joe," said Hernandez. "Our multipurpose room is a great collaborative space that can be used for anything from group meetings, to learn from one another, to a quiet place to study. Bring your own devices or check out one of ours and use the workspace created just for you."

The Hanscom community will also be able to find the ILC virtually.

"By the end of this month, Information Learning Center will have a new web presence; watch for details at HanscomServices.com," added Hernandez.

Each ILC location has databases and resources online such as OneClick Digital, Overdrive, Tumbleweeds for kids, EBSCO publishing and more.

"Our excellent ILC staff is knowledgeable of local town's library resources, so please stop by and let us know what how we can further assist your needs," said Hernandez.

For further information, contact the ILC at 781-225-6617.
