Col. Tom Schluckebier, 66th Air Base Wing commander, speaks to members of the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts Council. Over 400 girls, leaders and family members came to the base on March 8 to deliver more than 10,000 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to Hanscom’s Troop Care Package drive. Colonel Schluckebier shared thank you letters from some of Hanscom’s deployed Airmen with the girls to let them know how much their efforts mean to Airmen serving far from home. Japanese general visits Hanscom
HANSCOM AFB, Mass. -- Lt. Gen. Osahito Urayama, commander of the Japan Air Self Defense Force’s Air Materiel Command, signs a model of the JASDF E-767 Airborne Warning and Control System during his visit to Hanscom March 10. The first of the 767 AWACS jets were delivered to the JASDF nearly a decade ago, and Electronic Systems Center is currently working to upgrade the JASDF E-767 AWACS through the Radar System Improvement Program. New Director of Engineering named
The Air Force last month named Steve Wert the new director of Engineering for the Electronic Systems Center. Steve Wert, who while on Air Force active duty served two previous tours at Hanscom, the most recent ending in 2004, is expecting to begin his new job here sometime next month. At that time, Mr. Wert, who retired from active duty as a colonel last summer, will become a new member of the Senior Executive Service. (Courtesy photo.)

HANSCOM AFB, Mass. – Gen. Bruce Carlson, commander of the Air Force Materiel Command (center), Electronic Systems Center Commander Lt. Gen. Ted Bowlds and Brig. Gen. Janet Wolfenbarger, AFMC director of Intelligence and Requirements and Special Assistant for Command Transformation, listen to a Hanscom briefer Monday. General Carlson, his wife, Vicki, and General Wolfenbarger came to Hanscom Monday and Tuesday to discuss a number of significant issues with center personnel. Among the topics covered: AFSO 21 progress; Hanscom’s vigorous Voluntary Protection Program efforts; and a status updated on how the reorganization of ESC into wings, groups and squadrons has been working out.
