Dr. Juliette Brown sings “Total Praise” during a celebration to remember the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the base chapel Jan. 15. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, celebrated on the third Monday of January each year, marks the birthday of the civil rights leader. A bill to establish the holiday successfully passed through both houses of Congress in 1983, and President Ronald Reagan signed it into law on Nov. 20 of that year. Jingle Bell Run

Hanscom Middle School students, parents and teachers participate in the Jingle Bell Run through Castle Park on base Dec. 18. The event was part of the school's annual Hunger Awareness Week. The school raised more than $450 and collected more than 810 pounds of non-perishable items that will be donated to the Merrimack Valley Food Bank throughout the week-long event.
