Maresa Kelleher and Kathy Lynch perform special music during a celebration to remember the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the base chapel Jan. 16. President Ronald Reagan signed a bill into law Nov. 2, 1983 at the White House declaring the third Monday in January each year as a federal holiday to honor King, which is around the time of his birthday, Jan. 15. Patricia Rose, Air Force Materiel Command’s senior individual mobilization augmentee, speaks with members of the Hanscom Pride Month Committee after the first-ever Hanscom Pride Month luncheon at the Minuteman Commons June 25. The general, who served as the guest speaker at the luncheon, spoke about “Yesterday’s Struggle, Today’s Heritage.” Rose is thought to be the highest-ranking openly gay officer in the U.S. military.
