HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – Officials from Hanscom University will host two performance statement writing courses at the Education and Training Center here Aug. 15 and 29.

Chief Master Sgt. Alan Weary, installation command chief, will instruct both sessions to better equip employees to articulate performance metrics for award nominations and evaluations.

“This course will help attendees understand the foundational competencies and proficiency levels, apply system thinking, and connect what they do to the Air Force Materiel Command and Air Force missions,” said Weary.

The two courses follow the Air Force’s transition from bullet-style writing to narrative-style for award nominations last October.

The new statement format includes a standalone sentence that outlines an individual’s action and impact to the mission.

Master Sgt. Sarah Jones, Hanscom Air Force Base’s development advisor, explained that understanding and mastering the new format is crucial for leaders.

“Our careers are documented and showcased through our performance reviews, so it’s imperative to learn this new format,” she said. “It’s a skill needed to put our hard work, and our subordinates’ hard work, on display in a way that will follow them throughout their careers.”

The courses are open to all civilians, enlisted and officers at Hanscom AFB.

“It’s a great opportunity to learn directly from our senior enlisted leader here while we all adjust to the learning curve,” said Jones.

Pre-registration is required for attendance. Personnel can register for either course at https://teamup.com/ks1hj4ogu3xchysuyf.
