HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – The Hanscom AFB Women’s Forum will hold a film screening Aug. 27 in recognition of Women’s Equality Day.

The documentary film “100 Years of Women’s Voting Rights” will be shown in the Minuteman Commons Heritage Room at 3 p.m. followed by an open discussion.

“Women’s Equality Day honors our history and celebrates the women that came before us and all that they’ve done and the barriers that they’ve broken,” said Jackie Farrell, Hanscom Women’s Forum president. “There is so much to learn from the documentary, and it gives us an appreciation of the trail blazers.”

Women’s Equality Day is recognized annually on Aug. 26. On this day in 1920, women in the United States gained the right to vote with the enactment of the 19th amendment.

Earlier this month, Col. Jorge Jimenez, installation commander, signed a proclamation urging base personnel to reflect on the day as a celebration of progress and a call to action for the continued pursuit of justice.

“It is important to recognize this day and the struggle to advance women's civil rights,” said Jimenez. “While we celebrate the progress we’ve made together as a nation, we remain committed to promoting equity and an environment that embraces skill and talent, regardless of gender.”

The event is open to anyone with base access. Light refreshments will be served.
