Why I Serve?
I enlisted in the Air Force Reserves in 2001 as a way to get my life together. My first day of Basic Military Training was Sept. 7, 2001. Only days into training, the twin towers went down and my reason for being in the military changed. The original plan was to submit myself to the military lifestyle, embrace the discipline and commitment required to succeed and steer my life away from the direction it was heading. Maybe it was providence that I joined when I did, because being huddled into a little room with the rest of my flight to watch the news coverage was a galvanizing moment in my life. I felt real purpose for the first time in my life. For 15 years, through multiple activations and deployments, I played a role in the defense of my country and I am very proud to have done so.
Best Air Force memory:
The rare opportunities when we were able to have cookouts in the area of responsibility. We would take a break and cook up some burgers on makeshift oil drum grills.
Supervisors comments:
Kristofer is responsible for scrutinizing the invoices of more than 5,600 non-temporary storage household good lots JPPSO currently maintains across the Northeast region. He is a key player in interfacing with more than 100 storage vendors to request documents vital to processing invoices on time, which ultimately allows the Department of Defense to be auditable, and allows service members possessions to remain safe and secure during the entitlement period. Without Kristofer's diligence and stewardship of line of accounting accuracy and changes, we would not be able to fulfill the government's obligations for prompt payment of services for the storage lots, nor for the more than 20 million in house hold good shipments managed. Simply said, without his contributions we would fail to ensure quality experiences for the 90,000 service members, civilians and their families that relocate annually in this area of responsibility. In addition to all this, Kris is a joy to work with, as he has mastered the art of deadpan humor and can always be counted on for some good laughs. We are appreciative his wife and kids let us borrow him during the duty day. Look for more great things to come for Kris and his family. (Maj. Brent Tschikof)
