From cop to comedian: Vincent Oshana coming to Hanscom Published Oct. 13, 2011 By Sarah Olaciregui 66th Air Base Group Public Affairs HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- Back in 2002, Staff Sgt. Vincent Oshana was honorably discharged from the Air Force. The former security forces member bought a one-way ticket to California, packed a suitcase full of his belongings and, as he put it, "the rest is history." Since then, Mr. Oshana has gone from cop to comedian. He landed a part on MTV's "Yo Momma," was later cast in Showtime's sketch comedy show, "The Underground," and appeared on HBO's "Def Comedy Jam." Now, he is bringing his talents to Hanscom. On Oct. 21 he will do a stand-up routine at the Minuteman Commons. What brings Mr. Oshana specifically to Hanscom is his family ties. His sister, Tech. Sgt. Veronique Blier, a member of the 66th Medical Squadron, helped get her brother to the base for an initial show two years ago. After performing for a sell-out crowd, the Patriot Enlisted Association and Air Force Sergeants Association decided to bring him back a second time. "I'm extremely excited to come back," he said. "I get to perform in front of my fellow military brothers and sisters and I get to see my family, so I get the best of both worlds." The comedian's routine is sure to appeal to many military members because he relates to them. He can find humor in the day-to-day routine of Air Force life because he was a part of it for eight years. "I think making the people that protect our country laugh and giving them a break from the seriousness of their job is important," he said. For those who may have seen Mr. Oshana perform a few years ago, he promises to mix things up during this routine. "I have been making people laugh since I was a little kid," he said. "It's been my passion. I thank God for giving me the talent and for having an amazing family that supports me as I pursue my dream." Mr. Oshana is hoping to pack the Minuteman Commons and promises attendees that they will have an amazing night. Tickets are still available for the Oct. 21 performance. Doors will open at 8 p.m. and the show begins at 9 p.m. Tickets are $20 each. Tickets may be purchased by calling one of the points of contact.
