June has arrived and, finally, some sunshine, as well. It is time to head outdoors and enjoy yourself. Pull out the bikes, the boats and the barbecues. Enjoy the warm weather and celebrate the end of school, graduations and new beginnings that come with the PCS season.

But wait, have you ever heard of the 101 Critical Days of Summer? This is the time from Memorial Day to Labor Day where injury and death historically increase due to careless behavior both among Airmen and their families.

As Airmen, there are times when we must accept risk as part of what we do. It is a part of our responsibility as we engage the enemy and fight our nation's wars. As warriors, it is our duty to professionally manage this risk at the right level of leadership. However, as individuals, the "right level of leadership" is the one who looks back at you in the mirror each morning. We are all personally responsible for our actions.

I urge you each to use your training, sound judgment and simple common sense to enjoy the summer months in a safe manner. Do not allow you or your family members to become a statistic.

Do you have a question or a comment about how the 66th Air Base Group can better meet your needs? We would love to know what you think. Send it in via Straight Talk, Facebook or attend the next Hanscom Town Hall at the end of June. All base personnel are welcome. Stay tuned for next week's discussion on cardio equipment at the base fitness center.
