Bronze Star recipient
HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – Retired U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sgt. David M. Nugent speaks to Col. Russell E. Smith, 25th Marine Regiment commander, after being presented the Bronze Star with the Combat Distinguishing Device for bravery during the Vietnam War in 1967. During a ceremony at the Minuteman Commons Aug. 26, Nugent was recognized for heroic actions when an enemy grenade landed near him in his fighting position and while attempting to remove it, the grenade detonated, wounding him and three others.
