D-1 fleet aircraft arrives
The DRAGON-qquipped U.S. Air Force E-3 AWACS aircraft, known as D-1, arrives at Boening Field in Seattle, Wash., Oct. 22 after a handoff from the U.S. Air Force. DRAGON is a Hanscom AFB based program, which stands for Diminishing Manufacturing Sources Replacement of Avionics for Global Operations and Navigation. DRAGON is also a cooperative development effort between the Air Force and NATO to upgrade the cockpits of both fleets. Following a three-month demodification process and a modification Installation & Checkout phase, the Service anticipates delivery of the D-1 fleet aircraft in early 2017. (Courtesy photo)
