HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – The 66th Medical Squadron is now offering a second COVID-19 booster dose to eligible individuals.
According to MDS officials, those eligible for a second Moderna or Pfizer booster must have received their initial booster at least four months ago, and fall into one of the following categories:
- Individuals who received the Johnson & Johnson’s Jansen COVID-19 vaccine as their initial vaccine dose and booster dose
- Adults 50 years and older
- Everyone 12 years and older who are moderately or severely immunocompromised
“We want to ensure the members of our community who are considered high-risk continue to have the highest level of immunity,” said Lt. Col. Ryan Gough, 66 MDS public health emergency officer.
Gough said examples of moderate to severe immunocompromised personnel would be those that use any form of steroids, such as oral medications or inhalers.
“If there’s a question on whether someone is eligible for a second booster, we recommend they speak with their primary care physician,” he said.
Personnel can schedule second booster doses through the Defense Health Agency appointment portal at https://health.mil/dap.html. Initial boosters and vaccines are still available for those who need them.
Moderna doses are available on Mondays, and Pfizer doses are available on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Gough said the second booster is the same dosage as the first booster.
