A career planning seminar has been scheduled April 1to 3 at the Airman and Family Readiness Center to assist servicemembers, Defense Department civilians and military and civilian family members facing or contemplating career transition.

The three-day program was developed when the AFRC began building classes to assist Airmen coping with potential force management programs that were announced late last year by the Air Force.

"We wanted to create a comprehensive program to help people, not just Airmen facing force management but their families as well because they too are impacted by this," said Dawn Andreucci, Airman and Family Readiness Center community readiness consultant. "The career planning seminar is open to anyone on Hanscom - active duty, families as well as civilians."

Attendees may register for one single class, or register for more than one over the three days.

Along with resume writing sessions and other more commonly offered classes, the employment team is introducing new classes as well.

"We wanted to do something greater for our population here," Andreucci said. "If you are concerned about your future, or it's a natural time for you to retire or separate, or maybe even a spouse is looking for a job, this seminar will offer several useful tools to assist in that transition."

For instance, a career counseling course will help attendees find out what personality, skills, interests and value assessments are available to help with future career decisions, she said.

Other new classes that will be offered are Job Search Strategies and Networking, Interviewing Techniques; each of which will be taught by a Massachusetts Institute of Technology career counselor.

"My background is from a managerial perspective in very diverse organizations," said Bob Dolan, career counselor. "When I first started career counseling, I discovered that much of my leadership and industry experience helped in the workshops and seminars I instruct because I'm providing insight from a hiring manager's perspective, not just from the counselor's perspective."

Attendees will have the opportunity to apply the skills learned at the seminar at a job fair scheduled May 16.

"The seminars will be followed in alternate months by a job fair," Andreucci said. "Attendees will hopefully learn all these great things from the wonderful presenters, and this will ready them? to at least try and test their marketability at the job fair at the Hanscom Conference Center in May."
