So this is what they meant by the term New England Winter. Wow! I am learning a great deal about snow and ice and shoveling these days. I appreciate everyone's patience with us while we get the base cleared. I know we don't have all the parking spots opened back up yet, but we are working on it. Please continue to exercise caution both while driving and walking in these winter weather conditions. If you have concerns about snow or ice around your building, talk to your facility manager to find out the latest status.

If all this recent shoveling has reminded you that time spent at the gym is a good thing, read on for today's question.

Question: While I was thrilled to hear about the new Cross Fit Kettle Bells class, I was also extremely disappointed that the request for 9 a.m. cardio and weight training class has been ignored. The key for this class is the time it is offered. There are currently no classes available at a time when spouses of active duty members with young children can attend without having the expense and hassle of hiring a babysitter. The Fit and Trim activity group that is part of the Hanscom Spouse's Association has taken it upon themselves to start a class at 9 a.m. on Tuesday mornings. I hope that you will be willing to help us in our effort to better the health and well being of the spouses of our active duty members. As spouses, we are proud to support them, but we could use a little support too. Thank you for your help.

Response: I think we solved this one. The Total Body Conditioning class is now regularly scheduled each Tuesday at 9 a.m. and is open for everyone to attend. Thanks so much to the Hanscom Spouses Club for identifying a need and then providing a solution, as well. You rock! You can find this class, and other classes offered by the Fitness Center at the Hanscom Services webpage at www.hanscomservices.com.

I would like to take this opportunity to speak to all the families of Hanscom and let you know that the 66th Air Base Group is here to support you. I welcome all your ideas for making Hanscom a better place. If you have programs that you would like to see at the club, the library or the pool, let us know. Hanscom will be your favorite place to live, work and play if you are willing to share your ideas with us. If you don't know who to call with your question or idea, post it on our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/#!/pages/66th-Air-Base-Group-commander/164373866937912 or write to Straight Talk. You can also just stop me at the club and tell me all about it. We are here to serve you. Help us do it better.
