Straight Talk: New Commander Published July 8, 2010 By Col. Stacy L. Yike 66th Air Base Group commander HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- Greetings Team Hanscom! The last few weeks have been a whirlwind of transition, not just for those of us engulfed in the chaos of a PCS, but for the entire base as we transition to a new organizational structure. Change is often uncomfortable, but it remains a fact of life. I have realized in my few days here on base how deeply you all care for your mission at Hanscom Air Force Base. Your professionalism and sense of duty permeates every conversation and event I have attended. Your dedication to mission is equaled only by your spirit of family which you showcased in last week's Heroes Homecoming and Summer Bash. What a great way to honor those who have deployed recently and to pay tribute to the hardships they and their families endured as part of a deployment. Summer Bash rivaled most state fairs in complexity, variety and overall fun. Hats off to everyone who assisted or participated in this fabulous event. As we roll into the Fourth of July holiday, there is no better time to thank you all for your service to our nation. Each person working here at Hanscom -- in or out of uniform, government or contractor employee -- has chosen to serve. Every individual is dedicated to the mission of sustaining and improving the defense of our country. I thank you for that. I am proud to be a part of Hanscom where mission and people are clearly job number one. I am honored for the opportunity to lead the 66th Air Base Group and become a part of the Hanscom family. I wish you all a happy and safe Fourth of July!
