HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- The Hanscom community is invited to observe Women's Equality Day during an event at the Hanscom Conference Center Aug. 17 from 12 to 1:30 p.m.

The theme for this year is “Celebrating Women’s Right to Vote.”

Women's Equality Day, first celebrated in 1971, is observed Aug. 26 to commemorate the 1920 passage of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, granting women the right to vote.

During the event, scheduled speakers will explore the topic of “Women Leaders’ Role in the Military and Civilian Sectors: Now and Then.”

Scheduled to speak at the discussion is U.S. Air Force Col. Martha Monroe, mobilization assistant to the program executive officer for Command, Control, Communications, Intelligence and Networks, as well as Chief Master Sgt. Patricia L. Hickey.

Other planned speakers are Lt. Col. Taona Enriquez, Contracting Operations director for Battle Management; Senior Master Sgt. Jessica McWain, 66th Security Forces Squadron Operations and Training superintendent; Petty Officer Amber Thomas, from the U.S.S. Constitution; and retired U.S. Navy Capt. Mary Jo Majors.

Col. Roman L. Hund, installation commander, will sign a proclamation earlier in the day to declare Aug. 26 Women's Equality Day at Hanscom.

This event is free and open to all those with access to Hanscom.
