HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – Organizers plan to hold a community Thanksgiving dinner at the chapel annex here Nov. 22 from 3 to 5 p.m. for anyone with base access.

“Thanksgiving is an opportunity to spend quality time with friends and family,” said Tech. Sgt. Tina Mackyeon, this year’s organizer. “What better way to do that this year than coming together as an Air Force family for a Thanksgiving meal at the chapel annex. Some may not have immediate family in the local area or do not want to cook an entire meal for themselves. Either way, everyone is welcome, including families.”

More than 50 military and civilian members of Team Hanscom attended the first-of-its-kind event last year.

“We hope even more people attend this year,” she said. “Events like this are what make Hanscom a special assignment for our military members.”

Organizers are requesting donations of traditional Thanksgiving dishes as well as volunteers to help run the event.

“We need volunteers to help set up the chapel annex, cook their favorite side dishes, serve meals and clean up after,” Mackyeon said. “If you can only help with one of those, that’s fine.”

Those interested in providing food may sign up at https://perfectpotluck.com/EJEI6824. For those without internet access, send an email to Mackyeon at tina.m.mackyeon.mil@mail.mil.

Anyone interested in making a food donation may do so beginning on Wednesday, Nov. 21, at 12 p.m. at the chapel annex. Volunteers interested in helping to serve meals or with set up or cleanup should contact Mackyeon directly.

Mackyeon requests that anyone interested in attending RSVP to tina.m.mackyeon.mil@mail.mil prior to Nov. 16.

Hanscom Primary and Middle School students will again provide decorations for the community dinner. According to organizers, all leftover food will go to a local homeless shelter.
