HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – Officials will host a ‘Strike Against Sexual Assault’ bowling event April 25 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Hanscom Lanes as part of Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month in April.

This year’s theme is "Protecting Our People Protects Our Mission."

“This free bowling event will seek to bring the community together to highlight our collective commitment to eliminate this behavior, as well as offer ways to establish prevention practices at all ages,” said Jersouk Touy, the Sexual Assault Prevention and Response program manager.

The annual event is open to members of the workforce and residents living on base.

In an April 15 memo, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff U.S. Marine Corps Gen. Joseph F. Dunford wrote, “sexual assault erodes readiness, lethality, and the trust Americans have in our ability to carry out the mission.”

According to the SAPR website, the Department of Defense observes SAAPM by focusing on creating the appropriate culture to eliminate sexual assault and requiring a personal commitment from all employees. Everyone has a part in combating sexual assault.

Earlier this month, Col. Chad Ellsworth, installation commander, signed a SAAPM proclamation, and SAPRO officials displayed t-shirts created by survivors of violence, or created in honor of someone who has experienced violence, at the Community Support Center.

The Air Force Sergeants Association, Paul Revere Chapter 161, will co-sponsor the free bowling event. Activities are courtesy of Hanscom Helping Organizations.

The best bowler and best team will receive trophies.
