HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – The Top 3 Council here will host a virtual professional development opportunity for military and civilian personnel June 29 beginning at 1 p.m.

Senior Master Sgt. Aisha Thomas, a career reservist currently stationed at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington, D.C., will discuss emotional intelligence.

“Recognizing, understanding and managing emotions is one of the 10 Airmen leadership qualities found in the Airman Comprehensive Assessment,” said Thomas.

Emotional intelligence, as defined by the assessment, is marked by the following characteristics: self-awareness, manages their own emotions effectively; demonstrates an understanding of others’ emotions, and appropriately manages relationships.”

Air Force officials announced the new leadership qualities in February to assist in facilitating discussion during feedback sessions.

“We must have evaluation systems that provide constructive feedback, evaluate against qualities we value, and highlight future potential,” said Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Charles Q. Brown, Jr, in the February article.

Hanscom organizers spoke about the importance of developing leaders through sessions like this.

“Understanding emotional intelligence and other leadership qualities is a driving force for change and innovation in the Air Force for all Airmen, military or civilian,” said Master Sgt. Jeremi Isaacs, Hanscom’s Top 3 vice president.

The June session is part of the organization’s monthly professional development series.

“Our intent is to share monthly opportunities for growth and development for all Hanscom Warhawks,” said Master Sgt. Ronald Young, Top 3 president. “I invite anyone interested in becoming a stronger leader to participate.”

Personnel can watch the event on ZoomGov at Meeting ID: 161 267 1080.
