HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – Air Force officials announced this week that a 66th Civil Engineering Division environmental engineer here was among the winners of those selected for the 2021 Air Force Civil Engineer Awards.

Scott Sheehan received the Air Force Outstanding CE Manager of the Year Award in the civilian category.

“These Civil Engineers were selected by a panel of their peers to compete at the highest levels of Air Force Civil Engineering,” wrote Lt. Gen. Warren D. Berry, Air Force deputy chief of staff for Logistics, Engineering and Force Protection, in an email to Air Force CE leaders. “All of the winners, runners-up and nominees represent the best of the Civil Engineer community's incredible talent and dedication.”

Among his many accomplishments, Sheehan earned an “Outstanding Performer” distinction during the 2021 Unit Effectiveness Inspection for his efforts with the Environmental Management System and managed five environmental programs to preserve natural and cultural resources.

“It’s really a recognition of the outstanding work that the entire Civil Engineering Division and the Air Base Group are doing every day,” said Sheehan. “Everything we accomplish is a team effort, from top to bottom.”

Tom Schluckebier, Hanscom’s base civil engineer, spoke about the accomplishment.

“I'm really proud of the work Scott and others on the Environmental team do to protect natural resources here,” he said. “Our team is committed to complying with all federal, state, local, Department of Defense and Air Force environmental regulations and policies.”

Sheehan noted he was most proud of his work with local colleges and universities, helping to recruit future Air Force engineers.

“We all must be out there telling the Air Force story to motivate the next generation to choose public service, and particularly Air Force service, as an honorable and fulfilling career choice,” he said.
