HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – The Warhawks First Sergeant Council will host a five-day symposium at the Minuteman Commons here April 29 to May 3 to develop E-6s to E-8s for the first sergeant career field.

The symposium is not only limited to the enlisted corps, it also can provide valuable insights for company grade officers to understand the role of first sergeants in supporting squadron commanders.

Master Sgt. Mary McCurdy, organizer for the event, spoke about the semiannual event.

“The symposium aims to enhance leadership skills and promote better utilization of first sergeants as resources for commanders and Airmen,” she said. “It’s our collective responsibility to empower every individual with the tools, knowledge, and support they need to thrive.”

The course will cover various topics, including how first sergeants work with helping agencies such as Equal Opportunity, Military and Family Readiness Center, Sexual Assault Prevention Response office, Mental Health, and Family Advocacy.

The agenda includes interactive sessions, panels, and scenario-based exercises focusing on conflict management and soft skills.

"If you come see us [first sergeants] or we're coming to see you, odds are we've heard that you have an issue that we want to help Airmen with,” said McCurdy. “This course promises to be a valuable opportunity for professional development and collaboration in advancing the mission of the Air Force.

The event is open not only to Hanscom AFB personnel but also geographically separated units and mission partners.

All interested in attending are asked to register prior to April 19.
