Hanscom will host a women's college basketball game at the Fitness and Sports Center Nov. 10 at 1 p.m.

The free event will feature Newbury College Nighthawks vs. Simmons College Sharks. Both teams are located in Boston with Newbury playing in the New England Collegiate Conference and Simmons playing in the Great Northeast Atlantic Conference.

"The entire Newbury team is very excited to have the opportunity to play at Hanscom Air Force Base this season," said Katie Greene, Newbury's head women's basketball coach. "We are all so honored that we have the chance to play in front of our nation's heroes and have the opportunity to meet and thank the Air Force members for their commitment and dedication to our country's freedom."

The Nighthawks will take on the Sharks after an honor guard team presents the colors and Airman 1st Class Ashley Cook, from the Band of Liberty, sings the national anthem.

Before the game, a free basketball skills clinic will take place from 11 a.m. until noon and will be open for boys and girls in fifth through 12th grade. Interested participants should register at the Youth Center.

"Having these two fine college basketball teams play here is a fantastic opportunity for the base personnel to be exposed to the strong collegiate athletic scene here in New England," said Jerry Turnbow, Fitness and Sports Center director. "A big plus is the youth clinic the coaches and players will conduct before the game and it's all free."

The lucky participants will learn from head coaches Kristen Rasmussen Tarr from Simmons College and Katie Greene from Newbury College.

"If you want to see the fast pace of college basketball, here's your chance," Turnbow said. "It is a great motivational tool for any youth wishing to improve their basketball skills. Unleash the Michael Jordan, Larry Bird or Lebron James that is within them"
