Anthony Scalice, acquisition fraud counsel, will host the next Boston Area Fraud Working Group (BAFWG) training session on Aug. 2 at 1 p.m. at the Hanscom Conference Center, Concord Auditorium.

The session will feature Ron Meldonian, Defense Contract Audit Agency Northeast Region director, as the keynote speaker. Meldonian is responsible for 22 field audit offices in 11 states, and his region's area of responsibility includes Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Southwest Asia.

He will address DCAA hot button issues, the current Department of Defense contractor business environment, accessing contractor records and more. Meldonian will also field questions from the audience.

"All central systems acquisitions benefit from DCAA's assistance," said Scalice. "Hanscom Air Force Base acquisition professionals will have a rare opportunity to gain insight from one of DCAA's top leaders, to include a question and answer session, so all should take advantage by attending."

As the DCAA Northeast Region director, Meldonian is responsible for one of the largest most diverse DCAA regions.

Additionally, the Aug. 2 session will feature acquisition fraud hot topics from Scalice and Brian Koza, Air Force Material Command acquisition fraud counsel. Subjects will include Office of the Secretary of Defense updates on counterfeit parts policies and related draft Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation language.

The BAFWG meets quarterly and is comprised of two sessions. One is utilized to train the acquisition community on fraud recognition, reporting, hot topics and case studies. The other is the BAFWG core team and consists of Boston area law enforcement and discusses current cases and ways ahead.

Any program office that faces a fraud issue may call on the BAFWG to convene upon request to advise the program on investigation status and closeout in a way that will minimize impact to the procurement.

All government employee acquisition professionals, regardless of experience level, are invited to attend and are encouraged to sign up through HanscomNet with a link to ACQ Now. This registration process ensures the conference center accommodates all attendees.
