Credentials awarded to childhood educators

Two Hanscom employees have been awarded credentials in recognition of their outstanding work with youth.

Colleen Evangelista-Weeks, who works at the Child Development Center, was awarded the Child Development Associate credential in recognition of her outstanding work with young children. Ashley Camacho, a School Age program employee, was awarded a youth credential in recognition of her outstanding work with school-age children.

"We are so proud of these two women who have made another step in their professional journeys," said Laurel Wironen, Training and Curriculum specialist. "Credentialing has a positive effect on the quality of early childhood education and care and the impact is evident. The children are the ultimate beneficiaries."

The Council for Professional Recognition in Washington, D.C., awards these credentials to early childhood educators who demonstrate the ability to constructively work with young children and youth in group settings.

"It takes special knowledge, skills and expertise to be an effective teacher of young children," said Valora Washington, CEO of the council. "It's a great honor to earn a CDA and it shows a commitment to quality early childhood education."

The CDA is a nationally recognized credential for excellence in early childhood education. Each CDA candidate is observed working with young children and assessed on his or her ability to develop the physical, emotional and intellectual capabilities of young children.

The CDA community nationwide is having a positive effect on the quality of early childhood education by helping preschools, daycare centers, family child care programs and school age programs hire qualified and competent
professionals who ensure the best care for our nation's youngest, according to officials.
