More than 20 enlisted Airmen reached a milestone in their careers May 6 when they received degrees during the Community College of the Air Force commencement at the Hanscom Conference Center.

In total, more than 80 Airmen from Hanscom and geographically separated units received Associate in Applied Science degrees. Because of temporary duty, permanent change of station, retirements and other reasons, many graduates were unable to attend the ceremony.

On hand to deliver the commencement address was Chief Master Sgt. David Anthony, 319th Recruiting Squadron superintendent, who encouraged the graduates to influence others.

"As you reflect on today's accomplishment, think about what it took to get here," he said. "You're a success story; use that story to influence others and shape lives for the better of our Air Force and for our Airmen's future."

Hanscom's Command Chief Master Sgt. Patricia A. Hickey, who assisted Col. David R. Dunklee with presenting the graduates with their diplomas, had a similar message following the event.

"The Air Force places high emphasis on Airmen completing their education," said Hickey. "Each of these Airmen made a commitment to themselves, to their families and to the United States Air Force -- I am so proud of each and every one of them."

For many of the graduates, the CCAF degree is merely the first step towards a bachelor's degree.

"I know I have a long way to go, but this is an important milestone for me and I am happy to have reached it," said Senior Airman Kara Watts, who graduated with an Information Management degree.

The CCAF is a federally chartered degree-granting institution that serves the United States Air Force's enlisted total force. They partner with more than 108 affiliated Air Force schools, 82 education service offices located worldwide and more than 1,500 civilian academic institutions to serve approximately 300,000 active, Guard and reserve enlisted personnel, making CCAF the world's largest community college system. The college annually awards more than 22,000 associate in applied science degrees from 68-degree programs.

Congratulations to the 2016 CCAF graduates.
