Hanscom senior NCOs will collect hams, turkeys and other traditional Thanksgiving meal items Nov. 24 from 8 a.m. to noon in the Commissary parking lot for junior members of the workforce in need.

Distribution of the items will then be Nov. 24 from noon to five p.m., or until gone, at the same location.

"Our goal is to collect more than 300 turkeys and hams for members of Team Hanscom," said Senior Master Sgt. Shon Teicheira, organizer of this year's event. "Senior NCOs feel a sense of responsibility to take care of those members of Team Hanscom that are most in need and we hope this is one way we can show that. "

The target groups to receive items are as follows: any enlisted service member E-1 through E-6, non-appropriated fund employees and Defense Department employees GS-1 through GS-9.

And while the drive is for anyone in need, organizers hope to see younger members of the community in need benefit first.

The event was created six years ago by the Hanscom's Chiefs Group to help families ease the financial burden of Thanksgiving.

Last year, organizers of this event collected more than 250 turkeys for Hanscom families.

"The response to this event each year is proof that people really do care and are willing to help their neighbor," said Teicheira.
