When winter weather makes traveling a challenge, Hanscom personnel have a number of options available to find out if certain base operations are affected or delayed arrival is authorized.
Options utilized by the base to notify employees about the status of inclement weather delays or closures include the COLD line, the Hanscom public website, social media and the AtHoc system.
Employees and base residents should first call the COLD line at 781-225-COLD (2653) or visit www.hanscom.af.mil for early morning notification. Base status is also posted on Facebook and the AF Connect app.
The COLD line and Hanscom's website will be updated as soon as possible after a decision has been reached. The base status will be posted in the “Weather/Op status” section on the public website home page.
A mass notification system, called AtHoc is used by base officials to notify personnel of urgent weather-related information, base closures or delayed openings via phone call, text message or email.
Instructions for adding or updating contact information in the AtHoc system:
1. On a government computer, click the AtHoc icon (“purple globe” on the right side of the taskbar) and select "Update my Profile."
2. A secure Internet Explorer page will appear. Here users can update their personal information.
Additionally, in this window, personnel can “Opt-In” and select choices such as unit commander or facility manager to receive specific notifications targeted to those personnel. Individuals can also “Opt-Out” of specific notifications including weather advisories and watches, wind warnings or heat stress conditions.
3. Be advised that each field in which data is provided can be used for notifications, per the commander's discretion. Participants requesting text message alerts should know that they will not be reimbursed for any text messaging charges incurred.
4. Click the Save button in the upper right corner when finished. Please note that work email address and after hours phone contact number are mandatory in order to update your information.
Personnel without access to the Hanscom network can still receive updates by e-mailing 66.ABG.CP.CMB@us.af.mil with name, email address and phone number individuals would like to be notified on.
