Regular Opportunities

Ambassador Program
Serve as a warm, welcoming presence at the entrance and guide veterans and other visitors into and around the facility. Ambassadors have a reputation as being friendly, smiling and always willing to help. Commitment requires at least one four-hour shift per week, either 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. or 12 to 4 p.m.
NVDA Hospice
No Veteran Dies Alone is a bedside vigil companion program designed to honor veterans and meet the needs of those who find themselves alone while in hospice. This calling for iron heart heroes can be significantly emotional and not for everyone. Accepted, trained volunteers become part of a call tree and called upon when a companion is needed.
Adopt a Veteran
Are you outgoing and friendly with good communication and listening skills willing to initiate a relationship with patients? Specific activities will vary for assigned patient but may include discussing current events, playing games, accompanying patient to the canteen, library, or various recreational events, reading to patient or letter writing. Must be able to walk longer distances and push wheelchairs.
DAV Driver
Drive veterans to medical appointments. Must be able to drive longer distances, pass a driving physical by the VA Occupational Health Department, have a safe driving record, current license and proof of insurance. Must undergo a fingerprinting clearance and attend mandatory driver training courses, orientation and online training. Trips are coordinated through DAV Office HSC Coordinator. Drivers prepare trip records of transportation assignments. Must be available by e-mail.
