Holiday awareness Published Dec. 13, 2016 By Nick Zallas Antiterrorism Office HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- This time of year people are rushing around making holiday purchases and visiting local sites. Below is some information to help keep you and your family safe throughout the holiday season. Violent extremists groups, including homegrown groups, will continue to encourage attacks to the West. Focus areas include public events or places where large numbers of people will be gathering, especially those advertising attendance by military personnel. Do not draw attention to yourself by unnecessarily wearing a uniform during non-duty activities or when traveling. If you plan to attend these types of events, remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest law enforcement official immediately. Timely reporting of any suspicious activity will help thwart potential terrorist and violent acts. The base may experience large gatherings for community events this season. We will continue to conduct appropriate threat assessments and advise of any potential threats. Ensure you practice safe social media use, and stay especially vigilant as you shop online. Increased online shopping activity during the holiday season means increased attempts at phishing and other illicit techniques to bait consumers into releasing personal and financial information. The key to remaining vigilant is that if you see something, say something. Report any suspicious activities to the Eagle Eyes hotline at 781-225-3937 or the 66th Security Forces Squadron at 781-225-5000. Have a safe and healthy holiday season.
