HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- A senior airman stationed in the Nuclear Command, Control and Communications (NC3) Integration Directorate here has been named The Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center’s Airman of the Year.

The selection of Senior Airman Robert Beaver was announced during the center’s annual award ceremony Feb. 2 at the Mountain View Club at Kirtland AFB, New Mexico, where AFNWC is headquartered.

“Senior Airman Beaver has been instrumental in the stand-up of the new Nuclear Command and Control Communications Integration Directorate at Hanscom AFB,” said Scott Hardiman, NC3I deputy director. “The directorate quite literally was stood up with immense responsibilities from day one, but without any of the resources needed to carry out those responsibilities. Airman Beaver worked around the clock with numerous base organizations to get us the supplies and IT infrastructure we desperately needed to support our operations.”

According to the citation accompanying his award, Beaver was vital to the organizational stand-up, quickly ensuring purchase of $127,000 in needed equipment and supplies, and establishing necessary processes and procedures. Among other accomplishments, he also successfully scheduled more than 150 unclassified and 90 classified video teleconferences with multiple locations.

“He is a credit to the enlisted force here at Hanscom AFB and his superb contributions have been rightly recognized by the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center at Kirtland AFB. We are extremely proud of Senior Airman Beaver,” Hardiman said.
