Base to host Military Retiree Appreciation Day Published April 7, 2017 By Mark Wyatt 66th Air Base Group Public Affairs HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – The Retiree Activities Office here will host a Military Retiree Appreciation Day event April 21 at the Minuteman Commons for retired service members of all branches. This year's event will begin with an Information Services session from 8:30 to 11:45 a.m., followed by a presentation by the Fraud Watch Network at noon. "Hanscom’s retiree appreciation day is a wonderful opportunity to meet with and ask questions to on- and off-base agencies and organizations,” said retired U.S. Marine Corps Capt. Dean Mottard, director of the Hanscom Retiree Activities Office. “We also think that attendees will get a lot of useful information from the Fraud Watch Network presentation.” The presentation will discuss Fraud Trends and Behaviors, The Con Artists Play Book, Prevention and Resources. According to a report by Javelin Strategy and Research in February, more than 15 million Americans were victims of identity theft last year. The report further estimates losses at $16 billion. “Identity theft, investment fraud and other scams rob Americans, including military retirees, of their hard-earned money,” Mottard said. “I am certain that those who attend will be better prepared to protect themselves against fraud-related crime.” Organizations slated to participate in Retiree Appreciation Day include the 66th Medical Squadron, Delta Dental, TRICARE, American Legion, US Family Health Plan, the Veterans Administration and many other veteran service agencies. Officials from the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) will also be on hand to answer pay-related questions. Military retirees, spouses and retirees' dependent survivors of all ranks and services are welcome to attend. Those wishing to attend this event must have base access.
